Ngorongoro Crater Safaris
Born from the explosion of a Kilimanjaro-like mountain the Ngorongoro Crater today is one of Africa’s most unique wilderness areas. Home to more than twenty thousand animals, most of which stay permanently, the crater is African theatre in its purist form.
The crater is considered by some to be more akin to a zoo than a wilderness area – and it certainly has the feel of a theme park but it is true Africa. With numerous eco-systems, ranging from forests to marshlands and from lakes to savannahs, it is as if the crater is formed by pieces of the east African landscape.
The crater suffers the same fate as many African wilderness areas in that, through its popularity, it is overcrowded with tourists. Stricter control measures have been put in place to limit the number of vehicles entering the crater every day but despite the number of people the crater is still a magnificent spectacle.
